The old school of cleaning ladies teaches that to transform a hotel room from a twin room with two single beds to a double bed, it just takes a single sheet, that you put across the beds and wrap them up. This system could have worked 50 years ago, when guests weren’t particularly demanding. Today a couple who realizes that there is a hole in the middle of the bed, they give you quite a hard time… today almost all the mattresses are compressible: they have an anti-breaking perimeter box made of a rubbery material that can be compressed with the result of a real double mattress. One of the most effective systems, in addition to the hinge or the strap, is this: with mattresses of 85 cm (85 + 85 = 170) and the double mattress cover measuring 160 cm in width, we would have a mattress cover that is 10 cm narrower. By taking a rigid non-elastic cotton mattress cover and inserting the two corners on one side, our mattress cover will be short; but by lifting the other mattress to the side like the page of a book, we would be able to insert the other two corners as well. Then the weight is enough to crush the mattress, and it will compress to the point that it will be impossible to recognize whether it is made up of two singles or it is actually a double. The international style describes the twin room with the sommiers spaced 40 centimeters from each other. This is achieved by moving the right bedside table 20 centimeters to the right and the same with the one on the left. For this reason, the distances between the switches must be 220 centimeters, and not 180 centimeters as in residential rooms. In fact, the bedside table must not be moved out of the switch axis, otherwise the guest would find themselves with the pillow over the switch. In this way, the hotelier should always have the double room found. Some guests, such as footballers or athletes in general, want to separate the beds more than 40 centimeters, they want them within a meter. But the hotelier must let this change be made by the guests themselves, by moving the bedside tables in the center and sleeping with the pillow on the switch.
